Belarus citizens fall in love with Ukraine

The Belarusians have started traveling more to the neighboring Ukraine, said the Belarus Embassy in Kiev, citing an increase in the number of compatriots turning to the embassy for help.

In most cases, the Belarusians come to apply for new IDs in order to return home after having lost their passports.  Over 300 requests were registered last year. In January 2007 alone there were 14 applications. According to the embassy, around three thousand Belarus residents have registered with the Belarus Consulate and living in this southern neighboring country.

However, unofficial estimates suggest there is a much greater number of the Belarusians who live and work in Ukraine illegally, notes the Internet newspaper Belorusskiye Novosti.
