Russian police officers will be deployed to help with security during the upcoming major international sporting events in Minsk, state news agency BELTA reports quoting Belarusian Interior Minister Ihar Shunevich.

The decision was taken today in the Belarusian city of Navapolack where the United Collegium of Interior Ministers of the Belarus and Russia Union State held a meeting. "The Russian counterparts from the Interior Ministry will delegate their personnel during the 2019 2nd European Games and the world ice hockey championship," Interior Minister Shunevich said. He added that police officers from several other countries would also be invited to take part in the security arrangements during the events.

Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev thanked the Belarusian counterparts for help when preparing for and organizing the recent 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
