Belarus Air Force jets to drill landing on Minsk-Mahilou highway in dark hours

Беларускія лётчыкі сядуць у цёмны час сутак на магілёўскай трасе

Pilots from 61st Fighter Airbase of Belarus Air Force and Air Defense Forces conduct a tactical exercise on May 17-19.

According to Defense Ministry's press office, on May18 Belarus Air Force pilots will be involved in a drill to practice using a highway as an alternate runway for landing. MiG 29 fighter jets from 61st Fighter Airbase, Yak-130s and Su-25s from 116th Guard Air Assault Base will land on the airstrip stretch of a highway and take off after routine post-flight and pre-flight checks right on the road.

Landings will be performed on a highway strip in dark hours for the first time in history of Belarus Air Force. The Defense Ministry stressed that the highway strip is not equipped with navigational aids thus making the mission of pilots more complcated.

The landings will be screened live on the website of the Army TV and the portal of Defense Ministry at 2000 Belarus time.
