Beginner policemen earn as much as two chief engineers

Policemen’s salaries were increased and their housing problem was promised to be solved on November 1.  Young specialists having little to do with the police continue earning twice or thrice less.
Belarusian policemen became even happier on November 1: their salaries were increased thanks to the increase of the tariff rate. Even a beginner district police officer will make one million two hundred thousand Br in Minsk. It is equal to salaries of elderly candidates of science giving lectures in Belarusian State University.

However, regardless of such paradisial conditions, there are not enough district police officers in the capital – 9% are still needed.

“The thing is the salary was increased not long ago. Second, housing problems were also solved not so long ago, - explains the chief inspector of the staff department of Minsk City Executive Committee Department of the Interior Alyaksandr Ramanyuk. – I do not know what will happen in five years but solving the housing problem is a great benefit now. There are still not enough district police officers. However, if you take too much time considering the job, the deficit will disappear”.

A university graduate can get a job in the police – a historian, physicist or philologist… The work is stressful and it involves responsibility although you do not have to defend a thesis for it.

Not only Minsk policemen have bigger salaries now – policemen from the provinces have them too.

“A young officer makes one million in Pastavy and one million two hundred thousands in Minsk because it is harder to live there, - explained an employee of Pastavy District Department of the Interior. – Those who will stay in the job for more than 5 years will get an opportunity to build their flats and jump the queue. The work is dangerous and involves responsibility but only one policeman suffered during a mass event over the last 14 years – his finger was broken when young people were leaving to serve in the army. Nothing worse ever happened”.

Meanwhile, young specialists having nothing to do with the police have much lower salaries. Young teachers get 250, 300 or 400 thousand Belarusian roubles. However, there are lucky beggars.

“My daughter has started working as a teacher this year, she teaches English. She works about 27 hours a week and earns about 500 thousands a month, - a secretary of Lepel District Executive Committee boasted in an interview with ERB. – She just teaches and that’s it. It is difficult. Sometimes she works all day long and sometimes it is easier”.

“A chief engineer works in our agricultural department. He graduated from a Minsk university and his salary is exactly 600 thousands”, - the head of the economy department Lyudmila lahvinenka is boasting of her young “oligarchs”.

However, there are not many “lucky beggars” like these. Anyway, they get twice less than any Minsk district police officer.

Girls have problems in this situation but guys can become district police officers while there are not enough of them. The work involves responsibility and you will be helped to build a flat of your own. Even if one of your fingers gets broken, it is worth enduring it for this salary.
