Authorities ban sight-seeing tour to sites of Belarusian anti-Soviet resistance

The Minsk Region's Administration has not permitted the Belarusian Society to Commemorate History and Cultural Heritage to organize a sight-seeing tour on November 30 to mark 88 years since the foundation of the Belarusian Slutsk Military Brigade, society chairman Anton Astapovich told Belapan.

The information about the planned field trip was filed with the regional administration on November 17. "In the evening of November 27, an anonymous official from the regional administration told me on the phone that the trip could not be allowed because an application for staging a mass event had not been formulated properly. However, last year the authorities allowed the trip when 100 history activists attended, Astapovich said

He believes that the actual reason behind the reluctance of officials lies behind the active operation of his group to detect violations associated with the protection of historical heritage sites in the Slutsk and Kletsk districts of the Minsk region.
