Andrei Kabyakou to represent Belarus at Riga summit?

Belarus will not be represented by Alyaksandr Lukashenka at the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga, censor.net.ua reports.  PM Andrei Kabyakou will go there instead, European Commissioner Johannes Hahn told journalists.

However, Latvian MFA spokesperson Ivars Lasis has not confirmed the information to Euroradio. No official report has been sent by Belarus yet, he said:

Lasis: "We have not received the final confirmation yet and it is not clear who will represent Belarus at the summit. It will either be the PM or the Minister for Foreign Affairs, we believe.”

The Belarusian MFA has not reported yet who will head the Belarusian delegation in Riga.

The Eastern Partnership summit will be held in Riga on May 21-22. Alyaksandr Lukashenka has not attended a single EaP summit yet. There were rumours that Lukashenka could take part in this summit in connection with the events in Ukraine and official Minsk’s attempts to help settle the conflict peacefully.
