Anatol Liabedzka reminds PACE about Mikalai Autukhovich

During today's session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe which discussed the issue of returning the special-guest status to Belarus, Anatol Liabedzka, the leader of opposition United Civic Party, reminded PACE members about the prisoners of consciousness in Belarus: Anatol Liabedzka:“I am announcing this specially for Socialists. 11 people are recognized as prisoners of conciousness. 4 people are behind bars without charges. One of them -- Mikalai Autukhovich -- has been on hunger strike for 69 days.

I am asking the representatives of the faction of Socialists. Will you feel yourself comfortable if this man dies tomorrow in Lukashenka's prison?”

The Socialists proposed to return the special-guest status to Belarus without any additional conditions.

According to Anatol Liabedzka, if Europe "opened the doors without any conditions, without any homework for Lukashenka", it would have contribute to the conservation of the current situation in Belarus. It seems that PACE listened to his words, because Belarus can get the special-guest status at PACE only if it introduces a moratorium for the death penalty.
