Anarchist gets 10 days in detention for Chernobyl Way demonstration (photo, video)

Judge Aksana Relyava of Minsk's Saviecki District Court on Monday found Ihar Truchanovic guilty of "illegal picketing and disobedience to a police officer."

The anarchist participated in the opposition-staged Chernobyl Way rally on April 26 to mark the aniversary of the 1986 nuclear accident in Chernobyl, when he was detained by several plainclothes agents in Minsk. According to Truchanovich, he was beaten by the agents, yet he was not resisting them. This is proved by the video footage and photographs taken by journalists.

On Monday Saviecki District Court also sentenced journalists Aliaksandr Jarashevic and Henadz Barbaryc to three days of arrest each, human rights defender Viacaslau Daskevicя to five days of arrest and action co-organizer Dzmitry Carniak to ten days of arrest.
