Belarus President Alyaksandr Lukashenka has been invited to dinner in Brussels on 13 May. The event will be dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership. Belarus is a member of this initiative. The Presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine have also been invited, Radio Liberty reports quoting several sources in the EU structures.

The President of the European Council Donald Tusk will also attend the dinner.

Officials in Brussels, however, are not optimistic that Lukashenka will accept the invitation and arrive in person. In 2017, he was invited to the Eastern Partnership summit but Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei eventually arrived instead.

It is possible that Mr Makei will visit the capital of the European Union again.

Meanwhile, President Lukashenka will pay an official visit to Turkey on 16 April.
