Almost 40 animal and plant species that were considered to be extinct have been found in Belarus. This is one of the results of the four-year ecological peatland conservation project Clima East. This project is a joint effort of the EU, UNDP and the Belarusian Ministry of Nature. The work will be continued in the future.

All the activities were performed in two reserves, Belarus 1 reports. About 4 ha of peatland territory was purified. An infrastructure for the future usage of peatland biomass in construction, power engineering and agriculture  was created as well.
