Alley of "idols" discovered near river Drysa

The wooden figure is installed in the office of archeologist Dzyanis Duk in the department of history now. He found the "ancient" idol and fished it out from the Drysa with the help of divers.

“I told Duk: here is your idol, take it back. And we returned it to him", - said Volha Lauko, head of the pre-industrial society history centre of the Institute of History of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences, to Euroradio.

It seems that the Institute of History was "happy" to get rid of the idol.

Volha Lyauko: “We have all the documents but we do not have the idol here. Fortunately. Because it is not an idol. It is a piece of modern art".

As Euroradio has found out, similar wooden dolls are installed on the bank of the river Drysa three kilometers away from the spot the idol was found! Could one of them fall into the river?

Volha Lauko: "The same wooden dolls can be found on the river bank not far from that spot - wonderful sculptures. I had a feeling that there was some dirty trick about it. I made sure that it was true when I saw a path in the recreation area situated there. There was a burnt tree... I think that somebody sawed a branch off and decided to make something from it but then they decided that it was useless and threw it away... Maybe somebody threw it into the water".

It has turned out that people had known about "the idol" for 20 years. Why have they decided to fish it out only now? Euroradio has talked to the divers who took the sculpture out of the Drysa.

“Nobody cared about it at first and then some person mentioned it... They came to check it and informed archeologists about it... Nobody cared about such "a piece of wood" back then", - said captain of the diving club "Captain Morgan" Vyachaslau Ramanovich to Euroradio.

The idol from Rasony will probably be sent to a museum soon, says archeologist Dzyanis Duk:

“It will be displayed there as a piece of the 20th-century folk art".
