Ales Mikhalevich expelled from Popular Front

Ales Mikhalevich, a deputy chairman of the opposition Party of the Belarusian Popular Front, was today expelled from the party ranks after 24 people voted for expulision. 19 members of the Council of the Party of the Belarusian Popular Front voted against, with one abstaintee. Four ballot papers were invalid. The decision was caused by Mikhalevich's interview to Salidarnasc newspaper on May 11. Mikhalevich did not expect that his expulsion would be on the meeting's agenda. However, it was initiated by Yury Khadyka, the chairman of the party discipline commission, and Piotra Sadouski. Some members of the Council publicly destroyed the ballot papors and refused to vote as a sign of protest.

Party chairman Lyavon Barshcheuski noted that Mikhalevich was expelled from the Party of the Belarusian Popular Front and would keep his position as a deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front public association.
