2550 people to walk free under new amnesty bill

Alexander Lukashenka has signed the new law on amnesty which was passed by the House of Representatives back in October. On November 16, the law on amnesty was approved by the Council of the Republic, the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament. The law comes into a legal force on the day of official publication in the press, reports AFN.
Under the amnesty, around 1700 people will be freed from the closed correctional facilities and some 850 people from the open correctional institutions.
