Belarus plans to win at least 15 medals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The announced forecast does not sound unrealistic at the background of the previous games. In 1996 in Atlanta, the Belarusians won 15 medals; in 2000 in Sydney -- 17 medals; in Athenes -- 15 medals.
As of March 26, 500 days off the Olympic Games in Beijing, 159 Belarusian athletes from 23 sports continue preparations for the biggest sports event.
207 athletes have been put into reserve, but also have a chance of enetring the national Olympic team, "if they display excellent performance at international sports events", according to a Belarus sports official.
