16:57 Russia approves Belarus trade agreement draft

The Russian government has approved a draft of the Russia-Belarus agreement on measures to develop trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.  The Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov signed a relevant resolution on February 28.

Accorgint to a spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the agency tried not to treat the document as a routine formality. Rather, it tended to sort out all of the existing problems.

Mostly technical disagreements, not strategic discords have been sorted out, the spokesman said. For example, the draft dealt with the issue of quotas of the Russian tobacco pruducts' supplies to the Belarusian market.

The document is ready to be formally endorsed, which is expected to take place in early March, according to preliminary reports.
