15:57 127 drug-addicts for 100,000 in Belarus

Belarus has reported a three-fold growth in the number of drug-addicts over the past ten years, up to 127 patients per 100,000 people, Belarus's Deputy Interior Minister Aliaksandr Schurko said talking to the members of the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament. In Ukraine, the figure amounted to 280 patients per 100,000 population, while there are over 250 drug-addicts per 100,000 population in Russia, he noted.

Schurko stressed that 8 underground drug labs have been destroyed on the territories of Belarus. Police shut down three illicit labs in 2007 alone. The Interior official also noted the number of impounded anti-depressants increased at 577 times over the past five years.
