The Ukraine's President, Victor Yuschenko has described the contradictions between the power branches in his country as "a test that the nation, the government and all of the political forces have to come through. It is very important to have our partners together with us at this time". Talking to reporters after meeting on Thursday in Brussels with EU's top foreign policy official Javier Solana, Yuschenko said that he hoped for EU's assistance in normalizing relations between different institutions in Ukraine, "the way it was 2.5 years ago".

In return, Javier Solana noted that the existing relations between the parliament and the president and the country's prime minister required solution, but stressed the extraordinary role of the Ukrainian president in this process.
