15:22 Court rules police non-guilty of arresting oppositionists

A district court in the city of Mahiliou in the eastern Belarus on April 10 rejected a lawsuit filed by a group of opposition activists against several police officers. The plaintiffs -- Aliaksandr Karaliou, Yury Darashenka, Iryna Kacharova and Aliaksaj Paulouski -- charged the police officers with illegally disrupting their legitimate travel plans, when they were heading to the Ukrainian town of Chrnigov to take part in the Founding Congress of the Leftist Parties of Belarus last December.
The members of the opposition said their illegal detention was a violation of their Constitutional rights. During the hearing, 14 witnesses from the both sides were interrogated. 9 of the witnesses were police staff.

The civil activists said they would appeal the ruling in a higher court.
