One in ten Belarusians (10%) buy clothes abroad. In Minsk, the number of those deliberately traveling across the border for shopping or buying clothes during foreign vacations or business trips amounts to 15.6%, according to the study carried out by the International Agency for Social and Marketing Research. The survey interviewed nearly 1000 residents from different cities in Belarus.

The results showed that 55.6% bought clothes for themselves at local market places (in Minsk - 42.9%), 37% - in shopping malls (41.8%), 2.5%  - in boutiques (5.5%),  9.4% - in second-hand shops (9.5%). The number of market places is gradually decreasing in the capital city of Minsk where concentration of shopping centers has reached the average European level per 1000 residents. The authors of the study note the price tag and a wider range of clothing items are the the two main factors behind the choice of shopping place.
