Supreme Court suspends activities of Communist Party for six months

The Supreme Court has decided to suspend activities of the Belarusian Communist Party for six months. The reason for the decision was violation of the registration of organizational structures and the general number of the party members.

Furthermore, participation of the CPB in a conference of the Union of left-wing parties that took place abroad was confirmed and, according to officials, was a violation of the Belarusian legislation.

The decision of the Supreme Council was commented by the leader of the CPB Syarhei Kalyakin in his interview given to ERB:

“It is a political decision. It was a political order and it has been obeyed. But it does not change anything for the authorities or for our party members who participated in public activities”.

According to Syarhei Kalyakin, communists will be forbidden to organize meetings, use money from the party’s accounts (except for paying out the salary). However, the edition “Tovarishch” will remain.
