Searches in journalists’ flats continue
Searches in editorial offices of non-governmental mass media and flats of independent journalists have been going on since this morning.
Journalists of Radio “Ratio”, Belsat TV channel and Radio Liberty are being searched and detained. Some experts and journalists of our radio are not answering the phone. According to the chairperson of the Belarusian Association of Journalists Zhanna Litvina, “the reason for such actions was the case for contempt of the President. The flats of those who were announced to be witnesses are being searched. However, it is not clear what the case is. Most likely it is the authorities’ revenge for impartial coverage of the events that took place on March 25 in Minsk and for all the true information about the situation in the country”.
Detentions and searches are going on in Minsk, Mahileu, Homel, Vitsebsk, Byaroza, Babruisk and Hrodna.
Article #367 of the Criminal Code “Libel of the President of the Republic of Belarus” members of special police troops are referring to during the searches, may lead to fines or correctional works for the term of two years, custodial restraint or imprisonment for 4 years.
