Sasha Varlamov: Our designers are needed only in Belarus

Prominent fashion guru Sasha Varlamov thinks that domestic designers are needed nowhere apart from Belarus. However, international fashion school Esmod talks about a high level of our designers. The European Radio for Belarus has also learned that Belarusian specialists are even employed by the world-famous Reserved. Reserved: “We have two people employed. I know that the contest was held in Minsk at certain center of clothing design. These two designers were picked through a competition. They have worked for a quite a long time. It means they work well”.

However, Sasha Varlamov, the founder of the Fashion Mill festival, thinks that Europeans do not have a culture of fashionb. He says that our designers can be in demand in Belarus only:

Sasha Varlamov:
“What can we do there? There is no people to design for. When foreigners came to us, they stated that Belarus is the only country where people can dress up. And Belarusian women... It is common knowledge that they are biologically beautiful. But they also can dress up. Our designers are needed only here, nowhere else”.

Designer Natallya Paulyuchenka has stayed and worked for several years in Poland. She was noticed at an international fashion exhibition in Dusseldorf and received several proposals to work in different countries of the world. Natallya chose Poland.

Natallya Paulyuchenka: “Yes, I ended up in Poland where I first worked as a designer with a large company. Afterwards, I launched my own brand”.

She thinks that apart from creative opportunities, Belarusian designers are lured abroad by good salaries:

Natallya Paulyuchenka: “I think that our Belarusian designers have a very high level of education. Designers are not appreciated financially in Belarus. They work for some companies but they don't get what they deserve”.

Alena Valyushkina, who participated at the Fashion Mill fesatival and who still works in Belarus, believes that Belarusian designers can achieve a lot abroad because of their ambitions and hard work:

Alena Valyushkina: “Firstly, it is more interesting to work abroad for designers. Secondly, our designers are more lively and ambitious, because our life here forces them to be that way. As a rule, they express themselves very well abroad”.

The words of Alena Valyushkina were comfirmed to the European Radio for Belarus by the international fashion school Esmod which cooperates with the Fashion Mill.

Esmod: “Last year, the winners unfortunately did not make it to us. But the girls that had come earlier were very good and very gifted”.

Singer Anya Sharkunova gets her show costumes from Belarusian designers. However, she buys casual wear from foreign brands.
