Russian MFA: UN members blackmailed during Crimean resolution voting

"The great variation of the member states’ positions and the number of the states that abstained from the voting testifies to the disapproval of the one-sided interpretation of the events in Ukraine. Shameless pressure and even political blackmail and economic threats were exercised on a number of member states to make them vote pro,” the website of the Ministry reports.

100 UN member states voted pro and 11 – contra. Armenia, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, North Korea, Nicaragua, Russia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela and Zimbabwe did not support the resolution against the Crimean referendum. 58 countries abstained. The resolution urges not to recognize the annexation of Crimea by Russia according to the results of March 16 referendum.
