Russia threatens to ban meat and dairy imports from Belarus

The head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergei Dankvert said the Belarusian counterparts would be proposed next week to hold negotiations in order to discuss the results of monitoring the Belarusian produce over the past 9 months, reports interfax.by. The official also said Russia also considered introducing restrictions on Belarusian foodstuffs.

He pointed at violations committed by dairy companies Babushkina krynka, Savushkin pradukt, Biokom. A number of meat producers from Belarus are also threatened with sanctions for failing to meet health safety requirements.

Dankvert said the sides plan to discuss the deployment of Russian experts to the Customs Union border in Belarus. The Russian experts are expected to make sure that no EU-produced products reach Russia via Belarus as part of the Russian sanctions against EU. However, Belarus has been rejecting this proposal for the past two weeks, Dankvert said.
