Russia does not allow Belarus to increase sugar supplies

The problem of sugar supplies to Russia has arisen again. Moscow has not allowed Belarus to increase sugar supplies.
The Prime-Tass agency was informed about it by a source close to the Russian government. The interests of Belarusian sugar plants were lobbied by the Mayor of Moscow Yurii Luzhkov.

He signed an appeal to the Russian government asking to allow additional sugar supplies together with the Belarusian Prime Minister Syarhei Sidorski in June.

Luzhkov and Sіdorskі asked to increase the sugar quota introduced according to a mutual agreement on sugar supplies in 2007 and 2008 by 50 or 60 tons. Luzhkov explained it by the needs of Moscow in autumn. However, the Russian government declined the appeal.
