Russia continues search for missing Belarus tourists

Russian rescuers have so far failed to find three Belarus women who got lost in the Taiga.

Zinaida Burtovskaya, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Emergencies, said that 9 paratroopers and 5 rescuers and a helicpoter yesterday were involved in the rescue operation but could find the tourists.

In the evening of July 30, rescuers found a noted left behind by the tousists that said they were moving to the west along River Niukcha.

They women are reported to be leaving marks on the trees on their way. Rescuers hoped to find them on July 31, but Ms Burtovskaya said that "they would find markes on the trees more and more seldom and more time was needed to find each of the marks".

The rescue helicopter will today continue the search, reports BelaPAN.

Towards the end of the last week, the women went missing when they went to the woods to collect berries. The women were part of a group of 11 tourists from Belarus that were floating on River Niukcha in the Belomor district of Russia.
