Russia: Belarusian customs officials work at Russian border

The Belarusian customs have resumed the check-ups of trucks at the Russian border, the Russian Federal Service reports. “We confirm that Belarusian customs officials have resumed work at the Russian border. However, no control is being performed on our side,” TASS quotes FCS spokesperson Yelena Grak.

The FCS has also confirmed that drivers are experiencing problems crossing the Russian-Belarusian border.

The Belarusian State Customs Committee refuted the fact that there were long queues of trucks at the Belarusian-Russian border yesterday. The information about stricter customs control in Belarus was not confirmed either. However, some ‘monitoring’ or ‘special control’ is being performed at the border.

The Russian Agricultural Inspectorate forbade the transfer of banned European products from Belarus across the Russian territory at the end of November. A lot of goods did not reach their destinations and were sold in Russia. This measure violates international agreements, Minsk claimed.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka presented Russia with an ultimatum: he demanded to cancel the restrictions in 10 days, Nasha Niva reports. The customs control at the Belarusian-Russian border was abolished in 2011 when the countries joined the Customs Union.
