The action of protest against the scandalous law "On the basics of the state language policy" started on Tuesday when several opposition MPs announced a hunger strike under the Ukrainian House. There were clashes between the protesters and the police on Wednesday.

On Thursday morning it became known that four members of the People's Party's fraction withdrew their votes from under the "law on languages", adopted on July 3. Katerina Vaschuk, Serhiy Tsereschuk, Vasyl Shpak and Vasyl Cherniy filed corresponding applications to the name of the Ukrainian Supreme Council Chairman Vladymyr Lytvin.

Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Mykola Tomenko also withdrew his vote: it turned out that another MP had voted with his card. MP Ihor Bulava also withdrew his vote as he was abroad at the moment of voting.

Three MPs from the Party of the Regions also made corresponding statements - Orest Muts, Petro Pisarchuk and Vasyl Chudnov, as well as MP of the People's Party Mykola Sharshun.
