Ukraine celebrates Freedom Day

The Freedom Day appeared in the Ukrainian official calendar comparatively recently, in 2005. The third President of Ukraine Victor Yuschenko signed a corresponding decree on November 19.

It stated that the holiday was introduced with an aim to strengthen the ideals of freedom and democracy in Ukraine, taking into consideration the revolutionary events of Autumn-2004.

Let us remind you, on November 22, 2004, when the Central Election Commission announced the results of the second round of the presidential election, according to which Victor Yanukovich won, actions of protests started all over Ukraine. Later they were called "Orange Revolution".

The protesters managed to achieve the decision of the Supreme Court, according to which the voting procedure was repeated. Victor Yuschenko became President after this.
