Russia urges Belarus to respect human rights but does not impose sanctions

The statement was made in Moscow after the Russian diplomat’s visit to Minsk. Lavrov has taken part in a meeting of the CSTO Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Belarus today.

Lavrov has noted that Russia is not solidary enough with the European Union as regards “the Belarusian issue”. Unlike the EU, Russia has not imposed any sanctions and is not threatening to do it, informs RIA “Novosti”.

According to the official, Russia is not calling Belarus for anything it does not consider a task for itself – sticking to the international standards including respect for human rights and basic liberties.

The Russian Minister has noted that Alyaksandr Lukashenka (he has met him today) thinks that the attempts of the West to make Minsk and Moscow quarrel have no prospects.
