Russia condemns common day of veterans in Latvia
Russia's MFA stood against introduction of common day of memory for the veterans of the Latvian legion Waffen-SS and those who celebrate Victory Day on May 9.
In the opinion of the Russian diplomats, it facilitates racist moods and deepens ethnical contradictions.
Human Rights Commissioner of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kanstantsin Dalhou has called the appeal of the Latvian Catholic Church head Zbignew Stankiewich to mark "the common day of memory" a nonsense, ВВС informs.
He has also called the attempt to put those who struggled against facsism and those who were in the SS formations convicted by the Nuremberg tribunal immoral.
