Results of "Astapchuk case" investigation - coach Yafimau dusted doping

Director of the National Anti-Doping Agency Alyaksandr Vankhadla and Chairman of the Ministry of Sports' national teams directorate Andrei Fomachkin spoke about Alyaksandr Yafimau's role at a press-conference, which was held in Minsk in the press-center of the newspaper "Kamsamolskaya Pravda in Belarus".

Nadzeya Astapchuk and coach Alyaksandr Yafimau refused to participate in the press-conference, writes kp.by.

It was stated that "coach Yafimau did not confess at once...he explained everything by his poor confidence in Astapchuk's results". Yafimau kept the preparation due to "special reasons". He dusted it into the sportswoman's food in the training camp.

It was informed at the press-conference that both Yafimau and Astapchuk will be deprived of their scholarships. However, Astapchuk plans to continue her sports career after the term of disqualification is over.

Let us remind you, the scandal started on August 13, when it became known that the International Olympic Committee took the Olympic golden medal away from the Belarusian shot-putter Nadzeya Astapchuk. An anabolic steroid was found in her drug tests. As a result, Astapchuk had to give her medal back to the National Olympic Committee. She will not receive the 150 thousand USD as the prize money. 

The National anti-doping agency started investigation of the "Astapchuk case' in the middle of August. On September 3, it was prolonged due to "newly discovered circumstances".
