Minsk "shooter" wounded by policemen before taking his life

The Interior Ministry revealed some details of yesterday incident at Mashynistau Street in Minsk. Two law-enforcement officials arrived there after a phone call from the local inhabitants, who informed that an armed man walked along the street and shot a dog.

"The man behaved peacefully during the conversation, he wasn't suspicious at all. However, when we offered him to go to the police department with us, he suddenly opened the fire", - representatives of the Interior Ministry told BELTA. As a result, the chief operative officer of the criminal investigation was shot in the thigh, while warrant police officer 37-year-old Ihar Ivanchyk died of two fire wounds.

Representatives of the district police department, Department of Security, riot police and "Almaz" arrived to the incident site. They blocked the territory around the garage where the armed man locked himself. He shot himself in the head with a sawn-off gun. During the search the policemen found a handgun revolver, a hunting sawn-off gun, a gas pistol rearranged as a gun with battle patrons, and armament.


A criminal case has been started.

The deceased Ihar Ivanchyk will be awarded by the state for heroism and self-sacrificing attitude.
