EU to consider wider sanctions for Belarus

The necessity of imposing additional sanctions on Belarus will be discussed by the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels on May 23.

Economic sanctions are expected to be discussed there. “The black list” of people forbidden to enter the EU may also be expanded – judges and prosecutors may be added on it. The results of the meeting will be announced at a press conference in the afternoon.

Let us remind you that Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, claimed on May 11 that the EU’s only response to Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s actions could be imposing strict sanctions on him and representatives of his regime.
