"Ericsson": We did not sell equipment to Belarusian regime! (photo)

Let us remind you that according to Swedish mass media reports published in December 2010, the telecommunication giant “Ericsson” sold equipment to Belarusian security agencies and “Beltelecom” (with the help of the mobile operator “TeliaSoneira”). The scandal was mentioned right after the presidential election in Belarus and mass arrests of opposition members.

A Euroradio reporter has decided to find out whether the information about equipment trade is true at the International Internet Forum. Frederik Halston, representative of the company “Ericsson”, has called the situation “a great misunderstanding”. He says that the company did not sell anything directly to Belarus.

Frederik Halston: "TeliaSonera is not part of Ericsson. It is just a mobile operator who bought our equipment and we cannot be responsible for something that happened afterwards. It is not clear whether they sold equipment of our company or of some other one as they usually buy it from different companies”.

By the way, a dispute started between representatives of telecommunication companies and representatives of the countries who had faced the same problem. It is known that the situation in Syria was similar to ours – it was said that “Ericsson” had also sold equipment to it.
