British Minister worried about death penalty in Belarus

He has expressed anxiety in connection with the usage of the death penalty in Belarus, informs BelaPAN. The reason for it was the recent execution of Aleh Hryshkavets and Andrei Burdyka.

Lidington is urging the Belarusian authorities to impose an official moratorium on the death penalty. According to him, it will be the first step on the way to the death penalty abolishment. According to Lidington, the moratorium could give way to the future membership of Belarus in the Council of Europe and promote the integration of our country in the international community.

Let us remind you that the UN Human Rights Committee claimed that Belarus had violated its international commitments by killing Hryshkautsou and Byrdyka. Their cases were under advisement in the committee.
