Ales Byalyatski gets Lech Wałęsa award

The awarding ceremony took place in the Artus Yard in Gdansk. Byalyatski's wife Natallia Pinchuk was invited, and she was the one who collected the award personally from Lech WałęsaRadio Liberty reports.

The Lech Walesa Award is granted to institutions, organizations or individuals who work in solidarity for greater understanding between nations, freedom and human rights defense. Former president of Brazil Lula Da Silva received the award last year.

The Award was established in 2008 to thank for the support from the international community in 1983 when Lech Walesa received the Nobel Peace Prize.  A laureate receives a diploma,  a statue and a cheque for US$ 100.000.
