Polish spies to stand trial on Sep 4 in Minsk

The military college of the Supreme Court of Belarus is scheduled on September 4 to start hearings into the case of Polish spies. The trial will take place behind the closed doors. The Belarusian media reported abourt a Polish spy ring operating in Belarus in mid-July. Four Belarus officers and a Russian officer were then arrested on charges of espionage for Poland's military intelligence.

According to KGB (the Belarus's security service), the spies targeted the military and strategic objects in Belarus. The criminal case was opened under Article 356-1 "State treason in a form of espionage". If found guilty, the accused can receive up to 15 years in prison.

On September 4, Malady Front activists Ivan Shyla and Nasta Azarka are expected to stand trial on criminal charges of acting on behalf of an unregistered organziation, writes Nasha Niva.
