In pictures: Halloween in Minsk

The holiday originates from the territory of contemporary Britain and North France. Halloween roots lie in the traditions of ancient Celts of Ireland and Scotland. It is celebrated on the eve of the All Saints Day. In the end of XX century, Halloween became popular in many non-English speaking countries, including Belarus.



On the night of October 31-November 1 there is a tradition to decorate the houses with pumpkins with candles inside. An evil face is cut on the pumpkin. Such lanterns are the main symbol of Halloween - they are supposed to protect the house from evil.
