Photo fact: Svetlana Alexievich gets Nobel Prize

Belarusian writer Svetlana Alexievich has received the Nobel Prize in Literature. The festive award ceremony was held in Stockholm on December 10, 2015. Alexievich got the prize from the King of Sweden.

Alexievich will receive 8 million Swedish kronor or 953 thousand dollars. She will have to pay a tax in Belarus – about 123 890 dollars.

Svetlana Alexievich was born in 1948. She gained popularity thanks to her debut novel War’s Unwomanly Face published in 1983. Her other famous works are Zinky Boys (about the war in Afghanistan), Chernobyl Prayer (about the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster) and Second-Hand Time.
