Lukashenka: Svetlana Alexievich does not ask people to come to Square

The President commented on Belarusian writer Svetlana Alexievich who got the Nobel Prize in Literature on Friday. It happened during his visit to the Belarusian NPP construction site in Astravets District.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka said that he was happy that a Belarusian had received such a prestigious award, Euroradio reported. Svetlana Alexievich’s works are ‘normal and he has nothing against them’, Lukashenka said. It is good when ‘people have their own position even if it is somewhat oppositional’, the President believes.

Lukashenka: "This is her point of view and I do not see anything oppositional about it. She is not asking people to come to the Square. She is against rebellions. I value it a lot. Probably her second Motherland has affected her views (Alexievich was born in Ivano-Frankivsk. Her father is a Belarusian and her mother is a Ukrainian – Euroradio).”

It is important that Svetlana Alexievich used her ‘image and store of knowledge for the good of her people’, Lukashenka stressed.
