A concert of a band “Reha” and a bard Victar Shalkevich dated for the birthday of Kastus Kalinouski took place in Hrodna. However, representatives of the ideology service, policemen and rescuers tried to disrupt it.

They rushed into the private building an hour before the beginning of the concert and claimed that it could not take place because of some violations of the law.

That is what one of the concert’s organizers, activist of the Movement “For Freedom” Pavel Mazheika told ERB:

“It was clear that their goal was disrupting the concert. But quite a lot of people had already arrived – about 150 or 170, the house was full. “The guests” did not want to provoke them and to generate tension.

I gave written explanations and promised to take on all the responsibility for everything that would happen during the concert. It satisfied them and they left. They promised some consequences of it for organizers of the concert and me on Monday. However, the most important thing is that the concert did take place”.

Let us note that the yesterday’s concert in Hrodna was the beginning of a regional campaign “The year of state organization - 2008” dated for the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the Belarusian People’s Republic.

The date of February 2 was not chosen accidentally – it is the 170th birthday of a national hero of Belarus Kastus (Vikentsi Kanstantsin) Kalinouski (1838-1864). The Movement “For Freedom”, the city affiliate of BNF, “Malady Front” and a number of youth organizations are members of Hrodna steering committee.
