Last concert of “Leningrad” in Warsaw (photo report)

Saint Petersburg musicians behaved like hooligans broke a big drum apart and filled it with water. ERB reporters had a chance to watch the actions of the rowdies from “Leningrad”.
Sergei Shnurov and his band “Leningrad” bid farewell to the Polish audience. The concert was long and crazy! Informal listeners besides the stage and colourful images of Shnur and Co created the atmosphere of a real Saint Petersburg concert. It was hard to believe that we would only have memories about the legend of a whole generation left after that 2-hour drive.

“Leningrad” officially disbanded on December 25, 2008. Every concert of the band is a farewell concert now. An ERB reporter managed to attend the last concert in Warsaw.

About a thousand people including Poles, Russians, Hungarians, Ukrainians and even Belarusians came to the student club “Stadolu”. A Polish band "Poparzeni kawa trzy" performed for the public at first. They were wearing T-shirts with Russian taboo words starting with “F” and “T”.  The musicians assured the viewers that the concert of “Leningrad” would be superb and sang three songs. One of them was “I am a soldier” by 5nizza.

Shur appeared 15 minuets later and sent everyone to space with the first song accompanied by shouts “Go, go, Leningrad”.

Shur’s hair had grown longer and he resembled the image of his new project “Rouble” – a more brutal and uncompromising kind of rock music.

“Leningrad” band is not just Shur’s rock music; it is a full-fledged show of the whole team. It was noticeable that a big person in a red jacket was responsible for the visual decoration most of all. This fatty looked very impressive swallowing empty plates every 15 minutes, running around the stage and bullying.

The only female vocalist was also attracting attention. She had a wonderful voice and endless energy. This charismatic energizer was constantly jumping and seducing male listeners with her yellow shirt.

However, they are “Leningrad” only when they are together. This band will always stay in the memory of their fans.

Leaving the stage, the musicians broke a huge drum apart, filled it with water and wished that everyone could see their goals fulfilled!
