International book fair to open in Minsk

The XXII Minsk Book Fair will open on February 11. 28 countries will take part in it. The central stand will be occupied by Russia. China will be the honorary guest. Iran, the USA, France and Germany will also have big stands.

One square metre will cost publishers 100 euro. There will be a 10% discount for national and theme stands. The fair will be held in the pavilion in Winners Avenue, 14 (near the Independence Palace) for the first time.

However, not all Belarusian independent editions will be able to take part in the exposition. Publisher Ihar Lohvinau has been informed that his participation is ‘undesirable’.

The Independent Union of Belarusian Writers has not been invited to the national exposition either. There will be no independent publishers’ stand and writers working with the Union of Writers have not been invited.

Technology will show its editions. The publishing house has paid for two square metres. Publisher Zmitser Kolas will present the latest translation of novels and children’s books at the exposition.

The fair will open at 12 p.m.
