Disabled parents from Ivatsevichy allowed to keep their baby

Handicapped parents from Ivatsevichy have been allowed to bring up their child themselves. The decision to deprive Hanna and Anatol Bahur of the right to bring up their son has been cancelled. Hanna and her son Kostya can finally go home.

The woman received an official reply from the chief physician of Ivatsevichy Central District Hospital yesterday. The Ministry of Health has cancelled the previous decision. The hospital has apologized to the woman for ‘inconveniences’ and is ready to keep rendering medical assistance to the mother and child.

37-year-old Ivatsevichy inhabitant Hanna Bahur suffering from limbs pathology gave birth to a healthy boy a month ago. Medics did not discharge her from hospital because people with such a disease are not allowed to bring up children in Belarus. The child could be given to guardians.

The story of the Bahurs drew a wide response. Minister of Labour Maryana Shchotkina visited Hanna in hospital. It is necessary to analyze all such situations individually, the official claimed. Such a mother could not be deprived of her baby, Shchotkina said.
