The Institute for Economics and Peace has published the third Global Terrorism Index reflecting all the global tendencies and regularity of terrorism.

It contains a detailed analysis of the direct and indirect influence of terrorism on countries (loss of life, destruction, psychological consequences). The index ranges from 0 (minimal influence of terrorism) to 10 (maximal influence).

The research embraces 99.6% of the world population. Most terrorist attacks have been registered in five countries – Iraq (index – 10), Afghanistan (9.23), Nigeria (9.213), Pakistan (9.056) and Syria (8.108). 78% of all terrorism victims died in these countries.

The number of states where over 500 people have been killed by terrorists had increased from 5 to 11. The new countries on the list are Yemen (index – 7.642), Somali (7.6), Ukraine (7.2), Central African Republic (6.721), South Sudan (6.712) and Cameroon (6.466).

Belarus is in the 77th position with the index of 2.125. Ukraine is in the highest posting among our neighbours – number 15. Russia is in the 23rd place. Lithuania, Latvia and Poland share the 124th position. It means that there have been no terrorist attacks in these countries and they have not influenced the countries in any way.
