Lukashenka moved the Independence Day from July 27 to July 3 in 1996 but the opposition gathered on July 27 a year later.
The BSSR Supreme Council adopted the Declaration of Belarus’ sovereignty on July 27, 1990. Our country celebrated the Independence Day on July 27 in 1991-1996.
However, Aliaksandr Lukashenka moved the Independence Day to July 3 in 1996. The opposition did not understand and did not accept the change. They gathered on July 27 in 1997.
The action was allowed by Minsk City Executive Committee. The participants brought white-red-white flags:
