Belarusian parliamentary elections may be held in September

The next parliamentary elections may be held in Belarus in September, Alyaksandr Lukashenka announced while appointing officials to new positions on March 3. The parliament should play a more important part in the society so that people could see the work of those whom they elect, BelaPAN quotes the President.

 

The parliamentary elections will be held by September 11 and the date will be known before June 10. It will be the fifth parliamentary election. The previous ones were held in 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012. The parliament of the first convocation was not elected by the people. It consisted of the members of the dissolved Supreme Council loyal to Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

 

MPs will be elected for 4 years in 110 constituencies. Belarusian citizens aged 21 and above can become MPs.
