The delegation from Minsk visited Syria and gave Bashar al-Assad an official message from Aliaksandr Lukashenka.

The delegation was headed by First Secretary of the Communist Party of Belarus, Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Ihar Karpenka. Assad received guests from Belarus on February 21 in Damascus. The sides discussed the development of the military-political situation, the prospects for settlement of the conflict in that country. They also discussed issues of political dialogue and trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Syria.

"The message had the words of support for the Syrian people and the president in particular. It contained wishes to further develop the friendly relations between Belarus and Syria in all areas of cooperation," ria.ru quoted Karpenka.

The official also added that, in his view, Syria is conducting a just struggle. He called symbolic the fact that the delegation gave Assad a picture with the title "Victory Day".

In addition to meeting with the head of Syria, the Belarusian delegation also met with Syrian parliamentarians, representatives of the Syrian Communist Party and the ruling Baath Party, as well as the Supreme Mufti of Syria Ahmad Hasun and Patriarch of Antioch Ignatius Aphrem II.
