Ashton to meet with Martynau today
A bilateral meeting between the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union Catherine Ashton and the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Siarhej Martynau will take place on January 12 in Brussels.
Catherine Ashton's spokesperson Maja Kocijancic has informed to BelaPAN that the High Representative "will confirm the previously declared position of the EU with regard to Belarus and will urge to release all the detained on political reasons".
According to her, Ashton will try to convey the EU's view of the Belarusian election, as well as of non-renewal of the OSCE mandate in the country, to the Belarusian authorities. The High Representative for Foreign Affairs of the EU hopes to see an immediate reaction from the side of the Belarusian authorities, stated Maja Kocijancic.
